Manufacturing ERP Built Around How Your Factory Works

Connect planning, procurement, production, inventory, quality and accounting in one system. Heliconia implements and extends Odoo for manufacturers with complex workflows, integrations and reporting requirements: a foundry with heat-to-part traceability, a food producer with lot tracking and a Shopify channel, a drying line that ran on paper.

What Heliconia Provides for Manufacturers

Heliconia implements, customizes and extends Odoo for manufacturing businesses, connecting production, inventory, purchasing, quality, sales and accounting. Where standard Odoo doesn't cover a requirement (a foundry’s heat requests and pouring plans, a food producer’s drying batches, a certificate your customer demands) we build custom modules, integrations and portals around the ERP.

A manufacturing business needs demand to flow into procurement, materials to flow into production, production to flow into quality, and finished goods to flow into fulfilment and accounting. We use Odoo as the operational backbone and extend it where your production process requires something beyond the standard workflow. That is the difference between an ERP that lists “Manufacturing” as a feature and one that runs your factory.

Manufacturing challenges

The Problems a Manufacturing ERP Has to Solve

Six places where spreadsheets and disconnected tools break down on a shop floor.

  • Production planning

Manufacturing orders, schedules, materials and capacity in one plan, not a whiteboard and a spreadsheet that disagree by Tuesday.

  • Inventory accuracy

Raw materials, work-in-progress and finished goods connected, so stock on the system is stock on the shelf.

  • Bill of materials

Multi-level BOMs, variants, blends and packaging structures that reflect what you actually make.

  • Quality control

Checks and approvals inside production (inspection, lab results, non-conformance) not in a binder afterwards.

  • Cost visibility

Manufacturing activity connected to purchasing, inventory valuation and accounting, so unit cost is a fact, not an estimate.

  • Traceability

Lots, serials, heats and batches tracked from supplier receipt to the dispatched part or pack.

The manufacturing workflow

From Forecast to Accounting, in One System

Each step names the Odoo app that carries it, or the custom piece we built when the standard flow wasn't enough.

  1. Step 01

    Sales forecast

Confirmed orders and forecast demand as the planning input.

    • Sales
  2. Step 02

    Demand planning

Replenishment rules, MRP scheduling and stock forecasts drive what to make and buy.

    • Manufacturing · Inventory
  3. Step 03

    Procurement

Purchase orders from replenishment, vendor pricelists, receipts with lot capture.

    • Purchase
  4. Step 04

    Raw-material inventory

Lots, expiry, locations and quality holds on incoming material.

    • Inventory
  5. Step 05

    Manufacturing order

BOM explosion, component reservation and consumption.

    • Manufacturing
  6. Step 06

    Work orders

Operations per work centre: molding, pouring, blending, grinding, filling, packaging.

    • Manufacturing · custom
  7. Step 07

    Quality control

Quality checks, lab results, NDT and non-conformance tied to the order or heat.

    • Quality · custom
  8. Step 08

    Finished goods

Finished lots, serials and packaging variants into stock, with certificates where needed.

    • Inventory · custom
  9. Step 09

    Warehouse

Putaway, picking, packing, barcode operations and labels.

    • Inventory · Barcode
  10. Step 10

    Delivery

Deliveries, shipping integrations and customer-portal tracking.

    • Inventory · portal
  11. Step 11

    Accounting

Inventory valuation, manufacturing cost and margins posted automatically.

    • Accounting

The steps marked “custom” are where our manufacturing clients needed more than standard Odoo, and where the projects below spent their engineering effort.

Custom development

Where Standard Odoo Stops and Our Engineering Starts

Manufacturing is where Odoo customization pays for itself. These are the kinds of extensions we have built for producers.

  • Custom production workflows

Ten-plus casting stages. Intake → drying → packaging. Blending and filling operations modelled as your process, not a generic one.

  • Specialised BOM logic

Line-level casting specifications, blend recipes, packaging variants, BOM and pricelist duplication tools.

  • Quality and lab modules

Spectro analysis, mechanical tests, NDT tracking, heat-treatment batches, non-conformance records.

  • Certificates and reports

EN 10204 3.1/3.2 Material Test Reports generated to PDF and Excel in seconds. Batch and material reports.

  • Barcode and label workflows

ZPL label printing straight from Odoo, barcode operations on the floor, label template management.

  • Customer and supplier portals

Order status, inspection certificates and quotation edits for customers. Catalog apps for trade buyers.

  • Costing

Manufacturing cost calculation, product costing and inventory valuation that accounting can rely on.

  • Access control

IP/MAC-level restrictions and role-based menus for shop-floor and office users.

Why Heliconia

We Understand the Systems Behind the Factory

  • Process first, modules second

We model your production stages before we configure a single app. Odoo is fitted to the process, never the reverse.

  • Traceability as a design goal

Heat numbers, lots and batches are first-class data, so certificates and recalls are queries, not archaeology.

Implementation approach

How a Manufacturing Implementation Runs

  1. Shop-floor discovery

We walk the process (planning, purchasing, stages, quality gates, dispatch) and write it down as the flow Odoo must carry.

  2. Edition and architecture

Community or Enterprise, which apps, which OCA modules, what's custom, what integrates. Costed before any build.

  3. Master data and BOMs

Products, variants, routings, work centres, BOMs and quality points built and validated with your engineers.

  4. Custom workflows

Stages, lab modules, certificates, labels, portals: developed and tested against real orders on staging.

  5. Data migration and training

Stock, open orders and history migrated. Operators, planners and accountants trained on their own screens.

  6. Go-live and evolve

Cut-over with support on site or online, then continuous improvement under a support engagement.

Ask a question

Is Odoo suitable for manufacturing?

Yes. Odoo Manufacturing covers manufacturing orders, work orders, multi-level BOMs, routings and work centres, MRP scheduling, quality checks and costing, integrated with Inventory, Purchase, Sales and Accounting. Where a process is unusual (a foundry, a drying line, a blending operation) it's extended with custom modules rather than forced into the standard flow.

What does Odoo Manufacturing include?

Manufacturing orders, work orders and work centres, bills of materials with variants and by-products, MRP and replenishment, lot and serial tracking, scrap and unbuild, manufacturing costing and, on Enterprise, PLM, Maintenance, Quality and Subcontracting apps. On Community, Quality-style checks and other Enterprise-only features are covered by OCA modules or custom development.

Odoo Community vs Enterprise

Can Odoo handle complex manufacturing workflows?

Yes, with engineering. Hi-Tech Alloys runs more than ten casting stages (heat requests, pouring plans, heat treatment, NDT, machining) with a metallurgy lab and automated EN 10204 certificates on Odoo 16 Community. That is all custom modules on top of the standard apps.

Hi-Tech Alloys case study

Can Odoo integrate with manufacturing and sales systems?

Yes. We have connected lab and spectrometer data, ZPL label printers, barcode scanners and a Shopify store to Odoo manufacturing and inventory. Machine and MES data are integrated through APIs in the same way.

Odoo integration services

Can Odoo support multi-level BOMs?

Yes. Multi-level BOMs, variants, by-products and kits are standard. Blend recipes, packaging BOMs and line-level casting specifications are the kinds of extensions we add when the product structure is more specific than that.

Community or Enterprise for a manufacturer?

It depends on whether you need PLM, Maintenance, Quality and Subcontracting as packaged apps and Odoo.sh hosting. We run manufacturers on both: a foundry on Community with custom quality and certificates, a food manufacturer on Enterprise with Shopify integration.
