Definition

What Is Odoo Enterprise?

Odoo Enterprise is the commercial edition of Odoo: the open-source Community core plus proprietary Enterprise applications and features, sold as a per-user subscription that includes access to the official database upgrade service, Odoo S.A. support and hosting on Odoo Online or Odoo.sh. It runs on the same framework as Community, so custom modules, OCA modules and integrations work on both.

Enterprise is the right choice when the business depends on specific Enterprise applications, wants an official subscription and support relationship with Odoo S.A., or values Odoo.sh's managed hosting and upgrade path. It isn't automatically better: a business that would use none of the Enterprise-only apps is paying a subscription for the upgrade service and the support contract.

Most of our Enterprise clients chose it for a handful of concrete reasons (accounting depth, Odoo.sh, Studio or Documents) and we help make that list explicit before the licence is bought.

Enterprise apps in practice

Enterprise Capabilities Our Clients Actually Use

From production systems, not the feature list.

  • Accounting

Full accounting, multi-currency, bank sync, fiscal localizations. Jo Ann's across four jurisdictions, Opsio with Swedbank integration.

  • Subscriptions

Recurring billing and contracts. Opsio's managed-service subscriptions, Aria's gold saving schemes.

  • Helpdesk

Tickets, SLAs, email workflows: customized for Opsio's support operation.

  • Planning, timesheets, profitability

Project and timesheet profitability, workload dashboards.

  • Sign and Documents

Agreements and document management inside the ERP. Odoo Sign at Opsio.

  • POS

Enterprise POS with fiscal hardware integration (Curaçao blackbox) and EDC terminals.

  • Odoo.sh

Managed hosting with branches, builds and staging: how ERP Happy's client environments run.

  • Studio

Quick fields and views for business users: used with discipline, so it doesn't become the customization strategy.

Decision

Choose Enterprise When

  • You need Enterprise-only applications

Named ones (advanced accounting, Subscriptions, Helpdesk, Sign, Documents, Planning) that you would otherwise rebuild or replace with OCA.

  • Official Odoo support matters

Regulated environments, boards or auditors who want a subscription and support contract with the vendor.

  • You want Odoo.sh

Managed hosting with staging branches, automated builds and the upgrade service, without running infrastructure.

  • You want the official upgrade path

The Odoo upgrade service handles the standard database. The partner handles custom code.

  • Your organisation prefers licensed software

Procurement, compliance or policy favour a commercial subscription over open source.

Working with Enterprise

From Edition Decision to Running System

  1. Edition decision

Name the Enterprise features you'll use, the hosting model and the support expectation. That is the business case.

  2. Implementation

Discovery to go-live with Enterprise apps configured, Studio used sparingly, and custom modules where the process needs them.

  3. Customization

Separate modules, no core edits: the same rule as Community, so the official upgrade service keeps working for you.

  4. Integration

Payments, storefronts, CRMs, mobile apps and banking on REST, GraphQL and webhooks.

  5. Hosting

Odoo.sh for managed staging and builds. On-premise or cloud when data residency or scale require it.

  6. Upgrades and support

Annual or biennial upgrades planned as rehearsed migrations. Retained support in between.

Hosting

Odoo.sh, Cloud or On-Premise

  • Odoo.sh

Git-based deploys, staging branches, automated tests, backups and the upgrade service, with limits on system-level customization. Our default for Enterprise clients without infrastructure teams.

  • Cloud (self-managed)

Full control on AWS, DigitalOcean or similar: custom services (Redis, Meilisearch, real-time servers) alongside Odoo. Freiburger Bund's architecture needs this.

  • On-premise

For data residency, regulatory or connectivity reasons. Hi-Tech Alloys-style IP/MAC access control is easier here.

Ask a question

What does Odoo Enterprise cost?

A per-user annual subscription set by Odoo S.A., which varies by user count, apps and hosting. Current prices are on odoo.com. Implementation, customization, integration and support are separate and similar on either edition.

Odoo pricing explained

Can Odoo Enterprise be customized?

Yes, exactly like Community: custom modules on the same framework. We keep customizations out of core so the official upgrade service continues to apply to the standard database.

Odoo customization

Does Enterprise require Odoo.sh?

No. Enterprise can run on Odoo Online, Odoo.sh or your own infrastructure. Self-hosting is the right choice when you need services Odoo.sh can't run.

Can we drop the Enterprise licence later without losing the system?

Yes. We assess which Enterprise features you use, replace them with Community or OCA equivalents or custom modules, migrate the database and re-test before the subscription ends.

Odoo migration services

Should we use Odoo Studio for customization?

For small, business-owned changes (fields, views, simple automations) yes. For business logic, integrations or anything that must be tested and versioned, no: build a module.

Do you support Enterprise built by another partner?

Yes. After a technical assessment, we support and improve Enterprise systems regardless of who implemented them.
